SUP BITCHES!!! Been a while since my last post. Long story short I've been sick but I am back in full swing with a bag of tricks to blow your fucking mind. First thing I want to talk about is Coachella. If you didn't go then I hope you spent that time either A. Getting laid every hour each day of Coachella or B. Getting laid every hour each day of Coachella WHILE watching the Youtube stream of Coachella. Before I get into some reviews of the bands I saw I want to say that Coachella finally got it together. The wristbands with the sensors I give 2 thumbs up because it not only made getting in more efficient but it also added a new exciting obstacle for people sneaking in which I am all for. They also opened up a lot more room and threw in a Ferris Wheel for people to hook up in and throw up off of.
Now to the bands. Unfortunately I didn't get to see everyone that I wanted to see. If I could've cloned myself I definitely would but I don't think I could have swung getting a wristband for my clone unfortunately. I'm not going to cover everyone I saw but I will touch on some artists.
1. Monarchy
Blew my mind away. So incredible. The worst part of their set was the fact that there was almost no one there to watch them perform. Great live and their self titled album is incredible in entirety. So pick it up.
2. Skrillex
Skrillex's set started off a bit bumpy. He had some problems with his inputs and the sound would cut in and out along with volume fluctuations. After about 10 minutes it hit its stride and people were going crazy. He even threw in some Warp 1.9 and Pon De Floor which was cool. The highlight was definitely when Korn came out on stage and played the song they did together.
3. Two Door Cinema Club
I tried getting this band on a label back in the day. Everyone told me they were OK. I stood and got to watch them play in front of thousands and thousands of people so in a way it was a good and bad feeling. They rocked it, highly recommend seeing them.
4. The Strokes
This was actually my first time seeing The Strokes and I've known that they have a knack for pretty much being sloppy drunks on stage and half assing it. They pulled it off though. They had a really elegant, sharp stage setup with crazy lights yet they still pulled off this vibe you were watching them in a shitty NYC nightclub. They just had this swagger that was so cool and their performance was one of the highlights of Coachella.
5. Kanye West
Ahead of time I already knew Kanye was going to deliver. The man is a terrific showman even though he is Fucking Crazy. I was also anticipating that he was going to go off on one of his rants about how he more or less knows the answer to life or some BS like that. However, between me getting a high five from Kanye and hearing deliver an emotional speech about his mom I finally came to peace with Kanye. Everything about his show was incredible. Only thing that I was upset about was the fact that there was no encore. No big send off like Arcade Fire did on night #2.
Disappointments
1. A Trak - The man's style is beginning to be too heavily influenced by Duck Sauce. Keep them separate. He also played all the Duck Sauce tracks during his set. Kind of killed the magic for me of going to see Duck Sauce. He had a very impressive stage set up but I was somewhat bored with his set.
2. Tinie Tempah- He had a 30 minute set and I stopped waiting for him to come on after 20+ minutes of waiting. Not too sure how much pity set time they gave him for lagging but people were booing by the time I headed over to see the much more impressive Death From Above 1979.
All in all, amazing weekend. If you have never been I suggest you go even if you live out of state or country. You have the Alpha Nomega Playboys stamp of approval that it is worth everything.
